September Newsletter

Hello again friends! and welcome to you who have joined us recently :)

Firstly, thanks for listening to the new demo, Riot! If you haven't had a chance to yet, go here and you can just download it :) Again, it's a tribute to my time with Riot and Trash and a thank you to you guys for making that time so awesome. Thank you!! :)

So, then... as I said last month, I have some exciting news for you!

After two intense years of straight up rock n roll (and variations thereof), I've been wanting to try something new. I've felt as if I haven't been getting closer to fulfilling my potential as a vocalist and songwriter, at least, not as fast as I would like. So I've spent all summer writing on my own, without restrictions or genre expectations ("you have to sing this certain way!" "this is too OTT to be cool" etc). I've been able to focus on tiny details, write in parts for other instruments, write vocal lines that challenge different parts of my voice, fuse other genres in... I love working as a part of a band; writing on my own just presents this opportunity of calling all the songwriting shots.

Anyway, it seems the songs are gelling together into an overall darker and heavier concept album! Not set on a specific genre yet, but I've been listening to a lot of symphonic/power/prog/folk/melodic death metal lately, as well as film and video game scores, so those are some active ingredients in the mix. A dash of musical theatre for extra flavour is of course another.

Not to worry, the high screams and the gang vocals are still here too! :) But yeah, this is pretty much what's happening now. Dark and theatrical!

As I'm sure you're aware, making an album is a super long process haha, especially when you're writing it on your own. And when I say that, I mean I'm literally writing every part, and this on average means up to 13 vocal tracks, up to 3 or 4 guitar tracks, drums, bass, and then a choir track, individual string parts (violins, cellos, harp etc), piccolo/other wind parts, french horns, trumpets, trombones, piano and occasionally an upright bass. Whew. It's a big production!

I can't say it'll be out any time particularly soon, especially as I start at uni TODAY, but I am working as fast as I can to make something good. There are plans for releasing an EP first, and maybe I'll be able to send out some more demos as we go along, but we'll just have to see I think. The album is still evolving and though I would love to share every single thing as soon as it's even vaguely listenable or viewable, I don't want to disappoint anyone if it develops into something else, nor do I want to spoil any surprises!

I am really pleased with the way the new stuff is sounding, and really really excited about getting it out on the road asap.

More soon, I hope!!

Yours,

Adrienne xxx
